Discounts on Disneyland Tickets & Passes

LAST UPDATE: 1/5/09 - MOST RECENT ADDITIONS ARE IN RED

There are many discount offers for Disneyland tickets and passes every day of the year. Even with a discount, you're probably going to have to pay 92-95% of full price in most cases. Still, if you're buying multi-day passes for a couple or a family, that 5% you save can amount to a chunk of money!

Important Things to Know About Disneyland Tickets

Lost Tickets

Take VERY good care of your tickets, because Disneyland WILL NOT replace lost tickets under any circumstances. It doesn't matter if you have your receipt, a photocopy of the tickets, or whatever. They just won't do it. (They will replace Annual Passes for a fee, but that's the only exception.)

A Disneyland Cast Member told Sue Pisaturo of Small World Vacations that many, many people lose their tickets by putting them in lanyards (ID card holders hung around the neck). The ID card holder portion is usually made to snap off, and frequently lanyards also have a "breakaway" feature for safety purposes. Unfortunately, these features can easily result in lost tickets. I've lost my ticket this way myself! It's better to keep your tickets in your wallet or a deep pocket.

Upgrading Tickets

You can apply the value of an unused ticket or pass, or even a partially used one with days left on it, toward the purchase of a higher-priced pass, as long as you do it before your pass expires. For instance, if you buy a 3-Day Park Hopper and then decide on the third day of use that you'd rather have an Annual Pass, you can apply the value of the Park Hopper toward the Annual Pass. Discounted passes will be credited at the actual rates you paid (that info is encoded on the ticket). To upgrade a ticket, go to any Guest Services window.

Expiration

Unlike tickets and passes at Walt Disney World, all multi-day passes at Disneyland expire 13 days after the first day you start using them. (Unless you use them up first. Naturally a 3-Day Park Hopper is "expired" once you've used all three days, even if 13 days haven't passed yet!)

Old Disneyland passes that were issued in the days before expiration dates applied can still be used. Their original value is too low to be worth applying to a new pass, though. Just use them for admission (Guest Services will trade them for passes that will work at the gates) -- or if they're old enough, they might be worth more as collectibles!

Blackout Dates

If you buy a restricted Annual Pass (such as the Southern California Annual Passport, which has many "blackout dates"), but you plan to start your trip on one of the blackout dates, the blackout will not apply on the day you purchase the pass. So if you go to Disneyland on a Saturday and buy an Annual Pass that is normally not valid on Saturdays, you will still be able to use it that day at both parks.

Using Walt Disney World Tickets at Disneyland

Interesting, unpublished fact: you can use any unexpired, leftover days on a Walt Disney World ticket at Disneyland or DCA! Present the Disney World ticket at the gate on arrival -- they will take it somewhere, deduct a day from it, and give you a one-day Disneyland Park Hopper ticket. You can repeat this day by day until the Disney World ticket is used up. They will not give you a multi-day ticket all at once, even if you have multiple days left on your Disney World ticket. Also, MouseSavers.com reader Danny P notes that any Disneyland ticket obtained from exchanging a Walt Disney World ticket must be used on the same day it was exchanged.

This policy has been in effect for at least 5 years, and the information was last reconfirmed by a MouseSavers.com reader as of August 2008.

Disneyland tickets are NOT accepted at Walt Disney World, and Annual Passes are only good at the park where they were purchased (WDW Annual Passes are NOT good at Disneyland, and vice versa).

Last Minute Ticket Discounts

You can get slightly discounted Disneyland tickets at the Disneyland Welcome Center in the DoubleTree Guest Suites Anaheim Resort, located at 2085 S. Harbor Blvd, Anaheim, CA 92802. They may not carry the full array of tickets, and they do not sell 1-day tickets. Call (714) 383-7052 for the latest ticket prices and availability.

Their prices do not beat advance purchase tickets at Disneyland.com or ARES Travel. However, if you didn't get around to ordering tickets ahead of time, the Disneyland Welcome Center offers better ticket prices than are available at the park gate.

Thanks to Darkbeer for info and Cesco G for updates!

Southern California CityPass

Planning a "grand tour" of Southern California? Here's a great option: the Southern California CityPass, which includes a 3-Day Hopper admission to Disneyland plus one-day admission to three other major attractions.

The Southern California CityPass includes Universal Hollywood, SeaWorld San Diego and San Diego Zoo OR San Diego Wild Animal Park.

By purchasing this combined ticket, you save a substantial amount vs. buying each ticket separately. Click here for more information on the Southern California CityPass.

Annual Passport Deals & Discounts

It may be more cost-effective to buy an Disneyland Annual Passport if you will be in the parks for more than a few days during the year. Be sure to include an Annual Pass in your calculations when deciding on the best pass to buy.

When purchasing tickets for a family, group or couple that will visit Disneyland together, it is often worthwhile to buy ONE Premium Annual Passport for someone in the party. That's because in addition to the admission, a Premium Annual Passport includes 365 days of parking, many Disneyland Resort restaurant and shopping discounts and discounts at the Disneyland resort hotels. Just have the Premium Annual Passholder use the discounts and parking privileges for everyone's benefit. (Most restaurant discounts are good for the entire party -- a few have limits.)

Disneyland Annual Passports can be purchased at the gate or online. You will be given a voucher that also serves as your first day's admission. You take the voucher into Disneyland, get your photo taken and exchange the voucher for the activated passport.

If you are purchasing an Annual Passport that has blackout dates, be sure to read the hint above so that you can maximize your use of the pass at the time of purchase.

Annual Passport Deals

  • Costco - Some Southern California Costco stores are selling a Disneyland Deluxe Annual Passport voucher at the regular price ($269), but it comes with a bonus $50 Disneyland Gift Card. The Annual Passport voucher can be exchanged at Disneyland for the actual Annual Pass anytime through 5/31/09. If you wish, you can use the $50 Gift Card at the ticket booth to upgrade the Deluxe Annual Passport to a Deluxe with Parking or a Premium Annual Passport. While the vouchers are only being sold in So Cal at this time, purchase and use of these vouchers is not restricted to So Cal residents. If you want to call your local Costco to see if they are carrying this voucher, the Item # is 295609.

  • Southern California Annual Passport - Southern California residents within zip codes 90000-93599 qualify for a choice of two different reduced-price Annual Passports. See the Disneyland Ticket Prices page for details.

  • DVC members qualify for $20 off a Disneyland Annual Passport. This is good on the first purchase -- not on renewals. The discount is valid for members of the DVC member's immediate household only.

Southern California Resident Discounts

Most promotions for Southern California residents are available for Southern Californians residing within zip codes 90000-93599 and Northern Baja California residents within zip codes 21000-22999. Photo ID is required at the time of purchase and may be required at the time of admission as well.

Southern California 2Fer Ticket

Southern California residents can buy a "2Fer" ticket that features admission to Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure on two different days, for the price of a regular 1-Day park admission!

The "2Fer" ticket provides one admission to Disneyland and one admission to Disney's California Adventure, on two different days. The special ticket is available at Disneyland Resort Hotels, Vons stores, Southern California Disney Stores and Disneyland.com. It costs $69 for adults (age 10 and older) and $59 for kids (ages 3 to 9).

2fer Tickets are valid for Southern California residents within ZIP codes 90000-93599 and Northern Baja California residents within ZIP codes 21000-22999. Proof of residency required for admission. Admission valid for one day at Disneyland park and another day at Disney's California Adventure park, but not for both parks on the same day.

Tickets are valid 30 days from first use. First use must occur between 1/6/09 through 6/3/09. Each day of use constitutes one full day of use. May purchase up to eight tickets per person per day with valid ID. Tickets may not be sold or transferred for commercial use. Offer may not be combined with other discounts or promotions. Subject to restrictions and change without notice.

Thanks to Darkbeer for info.

Southern California 2Fer Park Hopper Ticket

Upgrade your Southern California 2fer Ticket! For $25 more, you can upgrade your 2fer Ticket to a 2-Day Park Hopper. Visit both parks on the same day for two days. Ticket rules are otherwise the same as for the 2fer Ticket. You can purchase the upgraded version for $94 (adults) or $84 (kids ages 3-9) at Disneyland.com. If you've already purchased the regular 2fer and want to upgrade, take your 2fer Ticket to a ticket window at the park.

Thanks to Darkbeer for info.

Southern California 2Fer Birthday Ticket

As part of the "What will you celebrate?" promotion, if you go to Disneyland on your birthday, your birthday is between 1/6/09 through 6/3/09 and you are a Southern California resident within ZIP codes 90000-93599 or a Northern Baja California resident within ZIP codes 21000-22999, instead of the usual FREE one day/one park ticket for your birthday, you will get a special FREE Southern California 2fer Birthday Ticket, which works like the regular Southern California 2fer Ticket. You can upgrade it to a Southern California 2Fer Park Hopper Ticket for $25 if you wish.

Thanks to Darkbeer for info.

Play 4 Days Ticket at Costco

Selected Southern California Costco stores sometimes sell a Play 4 Days ticket for $139 (ages 3 through adult) that gives you 4 days of admission to Disneyland or Disney's California Adventure. This ticket does not allow for hopping between parks on the same day. You can only visit one park per day.

There may be blockout dates, so check when purchasing. The ticket expires after you use all 4 days, or on the stated expiration date, whichever comes first. All 4 days on the pass are to be used by the same person. The person using the tickets must be a Southern California resident living between zip codes 90000-93599. They will check ID at Disneyland.

Be aware that there is some hassle involved in buying and using this ticket. At Costco you'll pick up a big plastic package off the shelf. After making your purchase, you must trade the package at the service counter for a voucher. Then you take the voucher to the ticket booth at Disneyland (which means waiting in line) and they'll look at your Southern California ID and issue the actual ticket.

If you want to buy these in person, not all Costco stores carry them, so call ahead and ask. Limit of 8 tickets per member per day. Keep in mind that Southern California ID is required at time of redemption.

This ticket is sometimes available online at Costco.com and you don't have to be a Costco member to buy through their site. (Non-members pay a 5% surcharge, however.) There is a shipping charge when ordering from Costco.com, which varies. Keep in mind that Southern California ID is required at time of redemption and you will have to trade in the voucher for the actual ticket at the Disneyland ticket booths, which means waiting in line.

Thanks to Daniel H, Darkbeer, April and Erin M for additional info.

Southern California Annual Passport

Southern California residents qualify for reduced-price Annual Passes. See the Disneyland Ticket Prices page for details.

DVC Member Discount

The Disney Vacation Club (DVC) is a Disney-operated timeshare program with properties at Walt Disney World, Vero Beach and Hilton Head Island. DVC is building a location at Disneyland, but it's not open yet.

  • DVC members qualify for $20 off Disneyland Annual Passes. This is good on the first purchase -- not on renewals. The discount is valid for members of the DVC member's immediate household only.

Teacher Discounts

Members of the California Teachers Association sometimes qualify for a great price on Disneyland tickets. To check on what's available right now, either visit the benefits web site or call TSA/First Financial Credit Union at (800) 537-8491. Thanks to Diane E for the info!

MouseSavers.com reader Barbara W reports, "First Financial Credit Union may extend this discount to members of other Teachers Associations through their toll-free phone line. (The rep I spoke to had no problem with my parents' membership in a Canadian Association.) These tickets must be shipped to a residential address in the US only."

Another reader reports that they would not allow a teacher from outside California to order. So "your mileage may vary."

College Student Discounts

Many universities in Southern California offer one-day, one-park Disneyland and DCA tickets at major discounts for their students. If you are a college student, check with your Student Union.

Youth Group Discounts

If you will be taking a group of 10 or more kids (between ages 3 and 18) to Disneyland, be sure to call the Youth Group Sales department at (800) 232-7980 to see what discounts may apply, or visit disneylandyouthprograms.com for more info.

Qualifying Southern California youth groups can buy significantly discounted tickets through the site above, by fax or by phone.

Thanks to Don R and Charles F for info.

Corporate and Government Agency Discounts

Many large corporations and certain government agencies in Southern California offer one-day, one-park Disneyland and DCA tickets at discounted rates for their employees. If you work for a large company or for a major government agency, check with your Human Resources department.

"Disney's Armed Forces Salute Companion" tickets may be used only by the friends and family members for whom they are purchased.

This offer may not be combined with any other offer.

Thanks to Darkbeer for info.

There are always military discounts on Disneyland admission. Check with your base MWR for info. Military ID may be required at the gate, though many readers report buying military tickets for friends and relatives who used them without problems.

Canadian Discounts

Disneyland tickets are sold at the Disney Stores in Western Canada. The price is adjusted periodically to conform to the current exchange rate; you might occasionally luck out and time it so that you benefit from a sudden change in the exchange rate. These tickets may be intended only for Canadians and there is a slight chance you might be asked for ID, so US citizens who live near the border should keep this in mind.

MouseSavers.com reader Shannon J reports in mid-November 2008, "I bought 3 day parkhopper passes at a Disney store in Canada yesterday. They were the same price in Canadian dollars as the gate or internet price ($149 for kids) even though the Canadian dollar is worth only about 80 cents American – which means I save $30 per pass."

Hilton HHonors

You can trade in Hilton HHonors points for "FREE" Disneyland passes. It takes 60,000 points for an adult 2-Day Park Hopper and 55,000 points for a child 2-Day Park Hopper. 3-Day Park Hoppers are also available at a higher point level. Click here to read about this award. Click here to read more about HHonors.
